Exercise 1: Treat yourself like a friend
1. Think about a friend who’s feeling down on themselves for something.
What to do: In your change journal, make some notes about how you’d respond:
What would you say to them?
What would you do for them?
What would your tone be?
2. Now think about when you tripped up in your change journey.
What to do: In your change journal, make some notes about how you’d respond:
What did you say to yourself?
How did you feel about yourself?
3. Is there a difference between how you’d respond to a friend and how you responded to yourself?
What to do: If so, write down why you treat yourself differently to others.
4. How might things change if you treated yourself the same way you’d treat a friend?
What to do: In your change journal, make some notes about how you’d respond:
If you treated yourself like a friend, what would you do and say?
How might you feel?
