Module 3: Deciding to change
Session: Do
Weigh the pros and cons of change
Asking whether or not you want to change seldom presents a clear “yes” or “no” answer. There are pros, and there are cons. In order to make a decision, it can help to weight them up.
What to do: Write down the pros and cons of changing, and not changing.
Go to a blank spread in your change journal.
At the top of the left hand page, write “Changing”.
Use the top half of the page to list the “PROs” or benefits of making the change.
Use the bottom half of the page to list the “CONs” or costs of making the change.
Then, at the top of the right hand page, write “Not changing”.
Use the top half of the page to list the “PROs” of not making the change.
Use the bottom half of the page to list the “CONs” of not making the change.
Then, you can move on to the next session to reflect on your decision-making process, and on giving yourself the best chance of making the change stick.
